Application method
Preparation of the metal surface
The application of nC Corrosion Passivator Fluid requires no grit blasting or mechanical surface preparation, bonding directly to wet, rusted steel. Heating or drying of the surface is not necessary.
Application by airless spray
The application process combines targeted airless spraying for accessible lower zones and overhead framing with a floating technique using either fresh or salt water. The calculated consumption for airless spray application is 5 to 7 m² per liter.
Application by floating
nC Corrosion Passivator Fluid floats on water. After crew members spray initial structures, they pour the calculated Fluid volume onto the water inside the ballast tank, and allow routine ballasting cycles to distribute the product to the tank surface. The calculated consumption for floating application is 1 liter per 1 m³
No down time
Application can be performed entirely in-service during routine docking schedules, preserving structural integrity without sacrificing dry dock availability.
Proven track record since 2021: Bridge pontoon
Since 2021, Shipyard Reimerswaal has used nC Corrosion Passivator Fluid and the spray-and-float method to protect internal bridge pontoon structures. Successful passivation turned active rust (bright orange) into a stable dark anthracite layer. After 4.5 years, the pontoon remains well-protected, with only minor spots needing touch-ups. Following this proven performance, the shipyard has chosen the same treatment for their floating dry dock.
