A rust converter is a chemical product designed to transform rust (iron oxide) into a stable compound. This process stops the corrosion process and prepares the steel surface for further treatment, such as painting or coating. Rust converters are typically available in liquid form but can also be found in spray form, depending on the application. Not all rust converters are the same; they vary in composition, functionality, and protective lifespan.

Rust converters work by chemically reacting with the rusty surface. The active ingredients in the rust converter react with iron oxide to form a protective layer. This layer adheres to the metal and prevents further exposure to moisture and oxygen, the two primary factors that cause rust.

Function
nC Corrosion Passivator Primer 2-in-1 can be applied directly over rust and provides an additional underlying protective layer for the coating. The product converts both visible and hidden corrosion into a stable oxide layer, preventing leftover rust under the coating from causing damage or the coating from peeling. Thanks to its powerful creeping action, the primer penetrates deeply into the metal, forming a solid foundation for long-lasting protection.

The primer is ideal for spot repairs and hard-to-reach areas. It is easy to apply with a brush, roller, or spray. A demonstration video is available showing the application step by step. After a short drying time, the primer can be overcoated with both 1K and 2K coatings.

Application
The primer should be applied after removing all loose rust and coatings. The surface must be clean (degreased and rinsed with water) and completely dry. Full application instructions can be found in the PDS.

Overcoating
The nC Corrosion Passivator Primer 2-in-1 must always be overcoated. The drying times specified in the PDS apply under normal conditions and depend on the substrate, layer thickness, and ventilation. Always ensure proper ventilation during application and drying to achieve optimal results and protect the health of the applicator. The surface must be clean and dry before further application. The primer provides excellent adhesion for both 1K and 2K metal primers and topcoats.

Coverage
With 1 liter of nC Corrosion Passivator Primer 2-in-1, you can cover approximately 12–15 m² of surface.
