On this cargo ship, we are applying nC Corrosion Passivator Fluid between the hold floor and bottom plating.

nC Corrosion Passivator Fluid is developed for corroded surfaces in tanks and confined spaces. Fluid is a fast solution with minimal surface preparation. Single layer application provides long lasting corrosion protection.

Because the ship has no vent holes, six holes were made across the width of the hold floor, at the fore and aft ends.

Treatment steps:

  1. Distribute 320 liters of nC Corrosion Passivator Fluid over the holes at the fore end (80 liters per hole, pour slowly so the fluid can flow between the beams).

  2. Once the Fluid becomes visible at the aft end, close the low holes there and continue pouring until each fore hole has passed 80 liters.

  3. Fluid floats on water. By slowly filling the tanks with water, the Corrosion Passivator can bond to the steel and react. Fill the tank with water until it overflows from the high holes; check for leaks to the wing tanks.

  4. Slowly pump out the water; stop as soon as Passivator Fluid clearly flows along so that it remains on the bottom plating.

  5. Weld the holes at the fore end closed.
