Stop rust

Protect tanks and confined spaces

For hard-to-reach areas, nC Corrosion Passivator Fluid has been developed. Fluid can be applied by floating (float coat) in the tanks or by spraying directly onto the steel surface in ballast tanks, peaks, or double bottoms eliminating the need for sandblasting or chipping.

Long-term protection of tanks, peaks and voids

Cost-efficient and time-saving – Float coat

  • Specially developed for ballast tanks, holds, and peaks

  • For both dry and damp surfaces

  • Free of VOC’s, solvents, and heavy metals.

  • Fast application by spraying or floating

Application by spraying or floating

1

Step 1: Preparation of the tanks

Remove any loose rust, paint, or mud present in the tank. The surface can be either dry or damp, and there is no requirement for heating or drying. Due to the product’s direct-to-rust application, it saves a significant amount of time and money, allowing the ship to return to service quickly.

2

Step 2: Floating – Distribute the Fluid (Float Coat) over the tank

For an optimal distribution of the tanks, evenly apply the Corrosion Passivator – Fluid (Float Coat) between the frames at the bottom of the tanks, peaks, or double-bottoms. The consumption is 1 liter per m3 during floating. When spraying, 1 liter can cover 5 m2.

3

Step 3: Floating – Filling the tank with water

Fluid (Float Coat) floats on water. By filling the tank, the Fluid adheres chemically to the metal surface. Both fresh and salt water can can be used for the floating process. The filling rate should not exceed 20 cm per minute. Fill the tank to the maximum level so that the entire tank top is reached. Can’t reach the tank top? Corrosion Passivator Fluid can also be applied by spray.

4

Step 4: Floating – Emptying the tank

When emptying the tank: ensure that the water level does not drop faster than 20 cm per minute. Ensure that the final segment of discharged water is collected and appropriately disposed of according to applicable regulations.

5

Step 5: Final inspection of the tank

After the floating process, the entire metal surface is covered with Fluid (Float Coat). The color of the metal will change to anthracite, what makes the inspection of the tanks simple. The surface retains an oily residue that disappears over time by retraction and evaporation.

Spraying instead of floating?

nC Corrosion Passivator Fluid (Float Coat) can be applied directly-over-rust by floating or spraying. When spraying, 1 liter can cover 5 m2. The treated surface does not need to be painted over and provides long term protection.
