Shipyard Kooijman Van Os in Yerseke benefited from the floating capabilities of nC Corrosion Passivator – Fluid, for treating the bottom of fishing trawler Zierikzee9 (ZZ9).
Hard-to-reach spaces
This image shows the complex bottom of the Zierikzee9 (ZZ9). Complex as in very difficult to blast, buff or sand to get a good preparation for a new coating. The photo also shows the Corrosion Passivator – Fluid already distributed.
Easy and fast application by floating
The nice thing about nC Corrosion Passivator – Fluid is that it floats on water. Carried by demineralized wool grease, the active corrosion-inhibiting formulation is delivered to the corroded steel structure. Blasting or chipping is not necessary. So spread the Corrosion Passivator – Fluid on the bottom, and start pumping water into the engine room. It sounds unnatural, since we have been taught all our lives to pump water out of the ship, but this works!
After floating pump off and ready
Now Kooijman Van Os has pumped out the water, leaving the corrosion passivator on the metal surface of trawler ZZ9. Now the passivator is going to dry, helped here at Kooijman with condenser dryers. Basically, the job is now done, the corrosion will remain stationary in salt water for a period of 5 to 8 years. To create the possibility of painting over the passivator, this area is now treated with a suitable tie-coat.
